How not to make the same mistakes in your business

In the 3/6 issue of Phoenix Business Journal Alan Lobock, one of the founders of SkyMall, was quoted as saying “My sense is they failed to innovate…”
In my opinion, that’s a huge understatement. With mobile users making up more than $1.1 trillion in sales in the U.S. today, spending more than 2 hours and 50 minutes on their smartphones and having an “old-fashioned” print magazine on an airplane that doesn’t offer internet is a recipe for disaster.
While airplanes are starting to offer WiFi on planes (it’s still not free) and all you were going to use your internet connection for was to order a high priced item from SkyMall – my guess is that it still wouldn’t happen when you’re also being charged for internet.
What do I think SkyMall needs? They need to purchase a new marketing platform and strike a deal with the airlines to offer FREE WiFi through #SocialWiFiMarketing on planes. Not only would they have an immediate customer base in which to market to, the airlines would have a great platform for advertising and generating additional revenue through the use of ad sales on the WiFi splash pages.
What is #SocialWiFiMarketing? It’s a software (www.RiseWiFi.com) that overlays with a secure, legally compliant connection, onto WiFi. It completely integrates the user experience with the business and engages customers on a deeper level. All this, while capturing cell numbers, emails, demographics, interests and more in a cloud-based portal and allowing for targeted messaging to new and potential customers.
